I'm also doing my new weekly in Orlando every Thursday that I'm in town. It's called ToTaLLy WiReD! and it takes place at Suite B, downtown. We have a good time and I get a chance to stretch a bit with an extra long set. Check it out if you're in central Florida on a Thursday.
My new 12" label EIGHT-TRACKS is up and running. I've partnered with Dave "Atnarko" Ross on this and so far so good ... our first 12", the Cosmic Groove Transmission "Just Looking" EP is in the shops now and is garnering quite nice little buzz. Come September we're going to hit the streets running with a steady flow of cool releases including titles by Funky Transport, Sleazy McQueen, Gabriel Black, and Formidable Force. For more information and audio previews please go to http://www.myspace.com/eighttracks or http://www.eight-tracks.com.
I know a lot of you who read this newsletter enjoy my film commentaries, but between the new label, the travel, and my publishing company there hasn't been much time for movies. I did finally get to see Caché which may be my favorite film of 2006 thus far. There are so many messages on so many levels in this film ... you can't help to ruminate on it for days after. Some find the ending way too open-ended and anti-climactic but I found it perfect ... for me, the film's end punctuated the theme of suspicion and paranoia all around us. It was also quite the spooky movie to be watching on a red eye flight from Las Vegas. Too bad director Michael Hanake has reportedly accepted an offer to do a Hollywood remake of his Funny Games. Nothing good can come of that, I'm afraid.
I sure hope my northern hemisphere friends are staying cool in this heat. Keep the cold beverages coming.
Until next time ...
